# Iphone terminal
As a quick proof of concept, I'm typing this post with a USB
keyboard connected to my Iphone, using the Terminus terminal to
connect to my VPS over Mosh (SSH tunneled over a disconnection
resilient UDP based protocol). This setup is damn near useless
without a USB keyboard in my opinion, because of the on-screen
keyboard layout of the Iphone, which Terminus on one hand does its
best to complement with additional keys that aren't usually
available or stowed away in some long-touch pop-up.
Using Vim on this thing feels bizarre, but works flawlessly.
I bought the USB adapter in Bangkok. I guess it's a camera
connection kit clone. I've also tried it with a MIDI interface,
which works fine. This really takes my phone one step closer to an
ultra portable computer, despite the locked down Iphone environment.
I do need something to hold the screen in place somewhat upright,
though. The phone is in landscape mode, which gives me 78 columns of
text at a reasonable font size.
Supposedly, iOS 13 supports pointer devices as well, but my 5S model
is stuck on version 12. I'll keep it for as long as it does this and
banking.
