Needful Things is a horror novel by Stephen King about a shop whose owner,
Leland Gaunt, sell stuff to people. Many people buy stuff they really want, and
have to pay for it in two ways: they have to pay with money and play a prank on
the town's residents to play them against each other.
Of course there is enough evil in the little town without Leland Gaunt's shop.
You can see that horror is not created by super-natural forces only. Let's look at the first product bought at Needful Things;
it is a rare _Sandy Coufax_ card.
I remember those cards from my childhood.
Do you think the ones who manufacture them care about the kids? No, they make
rare cards so you can buy more and more cards you already have.
And there is that Danforth "Buster" Keeton, the head selectsman, who is free to
park in spots reserved for the handicapped, without getting a ticket for it. Thedeputies have to cancel those tickets.
Wait! Do you think you do not play any pranks on others when you consume?
I'm reading now a book about globalization. I guess you can read one in your
language, and learn a little bit of the guys from Kongo mining cobalt so you can
One more thing: I think that there are some people in the plot who should have
taken part in deporting Leland Gaunt, but somebody else has done it.
This happens because we do not unite against evil.
